Activities to entertain the whanau over M2M in Te Tairāwhiti
Powhiri
Opening Ceremony
All competitors who register for the Maunga to Moana event are highly encouraged to attend the opening ceremony or Powhiri. This ceremony signifies the opening of the M2M event on a spiritual and cultural level.
This is the traditional formal welcome to the area and marks the opening of all activities within the M2M event. This adds to the authenticity of our event bringing the M2M and East Coast communities together for the first time. A truely unique and unmissable experience.
“The best event you have never heard of”
Tom Carter (M2M 2019 – solo winner)
Nāti Fest, March 2022
The East Coast’s Ruatōrea consists of approx 750 people, majority of them living on nearby farms. The Maunga to Moana Event is an awesome activity which brings this small community together to provide hospitality unlike any other place in the world.
The M2M community market day is an opportunity for Manuhiri (Guests to the area) to buy, taste and experience local products. This also gives back to the community that is coming together to accommodate M2M competitors, spectators and guests.
Please come and enjoy local cuisine, activities and gifts provided by local vendors.
Time: TBC
Location: Hāti Nāti cafe

Hakari
Final Function
As apart of our traditional customs as a Maori Orientated operation, we finish our event with a Hakari or Feast in true East Coast style.
Food is hunted, gathered and outsourced in preparation for a traditional Hangi.
We celebrate the achievements and successes of all our competitors over a feast or kai in the most unique and memorable way. We share stories of triumph, moments of madness and laugh among newly formed friends. These are magical moments that competitors and guests will hold on to forever.
This is also used as the Hakari as our formal part of the event. We thank and honor competitors with prize giving, sponsorship awards and major prizes which are all presented here.
We encourage everybody to stay and enjoy the festivities and the hospitality of our experienced Ringawera here on the East Coast.
For those wishing to indulge in alcoholic beverages, there will be a venue available off site.
