Marae Stay Experiences

As a unique part of the Maunga to Moana experience, all competitors and guests are invited to partake in an overnight Marae stay in Ruatōrea. As the ancestral home of the Ngāti Porou people, you will be welcomed to our gathering place – arriving as manuhiri (visitor) but leaving as whānau (family).

Community, culture, and comfortable accommodation – we look forward to hosting you here.

Services include:
• 24 hour Cooking facilities (whare kai – kitchen area)
• Host whanau on site 24/7 to look after manuhiri and equipment
• Toilet facilities
• Showering facilities
• Sleeping areas (traditional sleeping arrangements in whare moe)
• Campsite passes and lanyards

Cooking and Dining facilities
We use one of the local Marae in Ruatōrea as our Coastal Camp to involve the community and provide that authentic East Coast hospitality.

In our marae stay facilities we encourage a whanau friendly environment where all teams, support crew and whanau members can share the same spaces to cook and prepare meals if needed. This is a common area for people to relax and enjoy each others company.

We highly encourage competitors to bring whanau to this event and use our facilities.

Cooking and Dining facilities
As mentioned earlier our campsites use the facilities of local marae in Ruatōrea. These facilities are basic with kitchens and dining hall that maybe used by all people staying at that location.

In our campsite facilities we encourage a whanau friendly environment where all teams, support crew and whanau members can share the same spaces to cook and prepare meals if needed. This is a common area for people to relax and enjoy each others company.

We highly encourage competitors to bring whanau to this event and use our facilities.

Motor camps (Non-powered)

This years event will have a new addition to the accommodation options in the shape of a motor camp area. This is an area set aside for campervan, self contained campers, horse floats or even buses to park up and rest for the weekend.

We have decided to add this option after a few larger than usually house trucks arriving for our 2021 event.

This site will be non-powered and close to the facilities of a local marae as well for those essentials that you may need through out the weekend.

Catering for all whanau on the coast.

Services include:
• Toilet facilities
• Showering facilities
• Segregated camping area
• Campsite passes and lanyards

Cooking and Dining facilities
All motor camp patrons will have access to facilities in the local marae for cooking and dining if required. All sites are non-powered and local shops will be open to purchase kai if required.
